Of Mice and Men is a play adapted from John Steinbeck's 1937 Of Mice and Men novel of the same name.
Published in 1937, it tells the story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in California in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in the United States.
Using historical references from this era, I designed, collected and altered garments to resemble people from this period in the history. Having in mind a fairly intimate theater space, I went for subtleties that are usually only present in costume design for film. Very tight palette and patterns contribute to the idea of the male cohort and comradery. The main concept was to depict relatable characters.
“I have seen quite a few shows at Monomoy, and I must say that Of Mice and Men is one of the most beautiful.
This entire cast deserves massive praise for what Of Mice and Men has become and everyone did a spectacular job brining both the look and feel of Steinbeck’s story to life. ”
